Unit for the Week in Kamień Pomorksi (6-13 September 2011)

You might recognize a familiar face there (if you read my one and only blog from last mission). We were joined by Florence Donzé for a week. Flodo (as we affectionately call her) was an incredibly blessing & gift from God to me last mission. Although she's quite young (--she just turned 20 in August), she's rock-solid in her identity in Christ and she's a real trooper -- she endures hardships -- with a divinely cheerful spirit. She became like a little sister to me -- not in terms of babying her in any way. Just in terms of that closeness and comfortability with each other that good sisters share.

She's finished up her time with CP and will be starting University in less than a week. But somehow, she found the time to relearn lots of lines and aid us with a major playdate in Kamień Pomorski (located close to the Baltic Sea on the northwest side of Poland). We did a play together called EYE FOR AN EYE, which is an extremely powerful play on the subject of forgiveness versus vengeance. The play's impact was great and Flodo's impact on people was also great.

Although our days were filled with intense rehearsal, we managed to a tiny bit of time to enjoy the sea. As many of you know, I am a water person. I love the beach. For me, being by a vast body of water and hearing the sound of the waves is simultaneously soothing & exhilarating.

We also managed to squeeze in a bit of silliness, thanks to Aoa & Shane. See the picture of me with the pink safety gear for little girls? That's their idea. Some of you may know that I am quite accident-prone, and after a couple hundred times of hitting my head on things and bumping into various pieces of furniture, they surprised me with this very (ahem) thoughtful gift. Lucky me, huh? :)

Our time in Kamień Pomorski serving with the Kościół Ewangelicznych Chrześcijan (Evangelical Church) was a very special time. And I am very thankful for Pastor Daniel Kowaliński, his family, and the support of his church.

And thank you so much, Florence, for joining us. We love you and miss you -- but we also bless you in your new chapter of life as you head to University!

Introducing My Unit for the Mission

Yep, I'm stuck with another ugly unit. Heh heh. That is of course, not true. This mission I'm blessed to spend the next few months with a gorgeous Swede (from the Gothenburg area) named Aoa Kautz and her handsome hubby, Shane (from Osh Kosh, Wisconsin). Here are a few bits & pieces about them. You can imagine what a huge blessing they are to me judging just by these little tidbits...

We are the Wisła Unit of Covenant Players and our mission are is Poland & Lithuania. Once again, I'm serving as the leader. But this is a very experienced unit and the Kautzes have served as Unit Leaders in other areas before, so I'm really blessed to learn from their experiences as well. Shane has been in CP even longer than me (-- 14 years) and Aoa is not exactly a newbie, with 8 years of CP experience under her belt. The performance standards are high on our unit and I'm really enjoying being directed once again.

Aoa (pronounced "Ah-wah"-- her full Swedish name is Ann-Charlott)... extremely gifted with an artistic eye/abilities (drawing, make-up including incredible skills in special effects, photography)... wonderfully gifted in the kitchen as well with a love for cooking, baking, & making people happy with her culinary abilities... brilliant on stage & versatile in characterizations... very direct & honest & faces challenges head-on.

Shane ... Shane is rock-solid on stage, but his solidity is not limited to his work on stage. He provides us with a great deal of solidity off-stage as well with his easy-going nature and sense of calm. But don't let that fool you! He's no boring guy! Shane is also a lot of fun & he constantly cracks us up with his amazing repertoire of various sounds. His little quirks sometimes remind me of myself, often remind me of my dad, and occasionally reminds me of my little sister! So almost on a daily basis, I'll say, "Aw, daddy!"

Anyway -- there you go! That's my unit!
